I met my dad at a park on the way home from work today for a little treasure hunting. He was just telling me how hot this place was and just where to go to find the loot. When we got there he went off in a different direction than where he told me the loot was, so naturally I'm thinking he already cleaned it out and reburied all of the pull tabs for me ;-) I'm thinking all of this as I'm heading toward the supposedly hot basketball court he mentioned. As I'm moving along the fence surrounding the tennis courts on the way to the BBall court, I'm pulling a lot of trash out of the ground. I'm basically digging everything I get a solid pinpoint on because I know one of these times it's going to be something good. At this point, I've got two pennies and enough can slaw in my bag to create a TIN CAN BIPLANE COMPLETE WITH LINCOLN LANDING GEAR! - so naturally I was starting to get discouraged. I had about 20 minutes left before I had to be home. I got desperate and discriminated out everything except nickels, dimes and quarters. I said screw the BBall court and looked around for a place where most people wouldn't go MDing. Spotting a ragged bush to my left I started to make a SLOW left turn. There were still plenty of signals naturally as can slaw will ring as nickels all day long - can't pass up those gold rings though! Anyhoo, here's the slow left turn I made... read this picture from right to left (left turn):
So at this point in the picture I got this QUARTER signal that was repeatable but I had to swing pretty far away and come back to get the DING tone. When pinpointing the whole area was hot so my first thought was POP CAN, but the hot area was way bigger than a pop can. I was trying to figure out just where the quarter tone was coming in at, and pinpointing in that area was impossible. I was pretty sure there were just way too many targets (TRASH) around the loot, so I tried a little makeshift SNIPER trick by raising the coil off the ground a little bit and using the “point” of the magnetic field to find the “quarter”. I had an idea now of just where it was… there was definitely something larger among all of the trash signals. Dropping the ACE I scooped up my pinpointer and located what seemed like a 1.5” target the size of a coin. I looked over at my bag and thought, “knife or digger tool, knife or digger tool?” The target was not right under the surface so I chose digger tool. I plunged it in about 1.5” away from the center of the pinpoint and popped it! The picture below was EXACTLY what I saw when I popped it. Refocusing on the shiny thing I first thought “class ring”, but it kind of looked like a class ring with no gem in the top. I reached for my iPhone and snapped some pictures, called my dad over once again to check out my treasure. Right away he was trying to figure out how it was his… he was sure he had been through there before too. My dad really knows how to build up my self confidence, right? Passing up all of those ring signals and just leaving them for me to find. Thanks Dad!!!!

No jewels, but that dolla sign does all the blingin'
I just went through $400 in halves from the bank and got skunked (no silver), so this was a real pick-me-up!
