I snuck out of work, in the rain, and sleet. Man I'm crazy.

I cleared very thick bramble and thorns out with a machete and shovel. It took about two hours. What was left was new ground and about a half hour of detecting. The results were very nice.

Iron sling buckle. Late 18th C to early 19th C.

A blowhole was a gray surprise. This site has suddenly gotten much earlier than originally thought.

What a dandy! I love it and even my wife and her girlfriends over for drinks were impressed.

So remember to always move obstructions even if it's a P.I.T.A. Sometimes you score big, sometimes not at all. I've found many killer finds under trees and briar patches.

Enjoy and good hunts

The blow hole button is French and Indian War period, although they were used a lot later. Excellent job.

You know that totally came to mind about the period of the button. Thanks for the input. Cheers bud

Everything you have there is pre 1780. I found several of the blow hole buttons on the Rev War Brandywine Battlefield over 30 years ago. Still have them. They are still occasionally found on 1812 sites in Europe.

Scrapmeister, that is indeed a sweet tombac :icon_thumleft:

Haha, it's a winner. We can only hope that once in a while we find a design during cleaning. Finding one is about the same odds as winning money on a scratch off. Lol

Damn dude... You never mentioned that etched tombac. That's a KILLER button man. :occasion14:. Glad you got out for a little brush clearing and swinging.

Haaaaaaa I love your blowhole (man, that just is not right) I really like your button much better than your blowhole! You know you have something when the bride likes it (your button that is)
I'm horrible with acronyms, I thought you were making a reference to destroying vegetation, one time I had the police come and harass me because the park rangers thought I was trying to steal vegetation from it's ecosystem and move it to my yard which would of made it my ecosystem.

Awesome button man. I have several good sites that have briar patches and bramble that are covering virgin ground. Time to sharpen the machete and break out the bush hog

Very nice relic hunt, with a killer button! :occasion14:

does the machete work on snow :laughing7: (4 inches today) :BangHead::BangHead:. :censored: awesome button :icon_thumleft::icon_thumright:, is it cast or spun--- my sunburst spun from the 1723 home in Lake Katrine, NY was early 1700's

You know how gunked up tombac gets. I didn't see any design until I rinsed it and nail scratched it. But before cleaning it I handed it to the wife/friends, and they said "ewwww". Then I showed them how I clean it with Naval jelly and the design appeared before their eyes. Priceless!

That's detacation Scrappy! We'll start calling you "Bush Wacker" congratulations on some nice buttons.

Really nice results for your efforts. I have a few areas full of briars and brambles. What are your rates for clearing a half acre? lol
Congratulations on your finds

Great finds!

PITA - Pain In The Arse

I remember once a big group of my friends getting stopped by the police and all our Records checked. All for land I previously had permission to hunt. Sound familiar? Lol

Glen, I would love to get power equipment in there but am afraid I'd draw too much attention. It's town land so they have a "tread lightly" policy that probably doesn't include bush hogs or a Gravely. Lol

Lol. I'd rather have used a torch. My day today is filled with removing thorns.
