Blown up 1830's army issue powder flask.

I found this at my best site in a stone pile it is in bad shape but still a cool relic. Some one had a bad day probably tried to reload too soon after firing a shot and added powder to a gun with an ember still in the barrel and boom!

It's still a great relic to have, for me having any piece of history is a good thing.

Holy cow. That is so cool. Now that is a relic that can talk. It tells you a little of what happened. I wonder how it got in the stone pile?? Was the stone a defense? Very nice recovery.

For sure. I am happy to have it especially since it can be identified and better yet dated thanks to a little help from T-net members!

Re: Blown up 1830's army issue powder flask.

That is a Robert Dingee powder flask first sketched in 1831. In 1832 Dingee was given a contract to produce 3,450 stamped copper powder flasks that would discharge 70 grains of gunpowder.The price to the US Government was $1.30 each. Can you find;

Is the circle around the US a bugle? Can you see the rest of the bugle underneath the US?

Dingee' name?

Year and date on the flask top?

Will you consider selling it?

Send me a PM for more information, you have found a nice piece of history.

I found a flask identical to this a few years ago. I might be interested in selling it? Let me know if you are interested. It also has no top and is flat as has been in ground for over 150 years It is copper .
