BOA has no more halves

Or so that was what I was told when I went to pick up two boxes this week. They went on to say that it was probably temporary and that they would try again next week to fill the order.

Is it even possible for a brank that large in a major metro area to run out of halves?

Since then I've convinced both a WF and US Bank to place an order for me so I'm going to be covered but I thought this was a strange reply. Has this happened to others?

Nothing new to me. I live in San Francisco and i've went to just about every BoA in the city and nearby cities and not a single half dollar coin was obtained. That goes for many other banks around my area, Wells Fargo and Citibank wont order either. Chase on the other hand orders for me every time i request them. Found 2 Chase banks to continuously order me halves, so i'm quite happy. Pick up at Chase's and dump at BoA's has been working well for me since i started roll hunting.

What state are you in? Most likely answer is that the bank forgot to order or the coin service forgot to load your order on the truck.

It does indeed happen. It is because there are too many hunters in an area drawing from their supply, but they aren't getting enough returned throughout their district to recycle. The dumps are coming back because they are being taken out of the service district or dumped on another supplier (Brinks vs. Loomis). The banks theoretically should never run out as they can always be reallocated by the Federal Reserve for them to order from, but the reality is that it doesn't happen.

I will give you an example as it pertains to Jacksonville Reserve Branch of the Atlanta Fed District. Brinks is a designated Reserve vault. The Reserve doesn't keep all their coin. Main carriers will be designated to keep on hand a minimum. Within Brinks are bank vaults that each banks "owns". These vaults are only caged off areas. BoA will have their own cages separate from Chase, etc. Brinks still might have the minimum on hand as far as the Reserve is concerned, yet BoA's cage might be empty. Hence, BoA is out of halves.

This is why it is imperative to order from different banks even if they are supplied by the same carrier. One bank's supply might be all dumps while another bank's supply provided by the same carrier might have a rich silver vein.
