Bored with the clad...time to get wet??

I guess I shouldn't complain but I have never let that stop me before.

Beach hunts are nothing but one coin after the other. Been a few months at it with an ace 250 averaging about nine hours a week hunting the beach. So far just one decent ring; silver. They say if the beach has clad it should have jewelry but not so in my case. I search with vary little discrimination and dig all repeatable targets so I don't think that's the problem. Clad has become so routine that when I found a mail box key for one of the condos it was actually pretty exciting to just find something other than a coin.

I actually get more recent clad than pull tabs. I don't think its competition from other hobbyist either. It is obvious that some of the clad I have found has been there for quite some time and I can count on one hand the other people with metal detectors I have seen out there and it is obvious a few of these are not really serious about it. Have seen a few guys in the water however.

Is it time to get in the water with a different detector? Will the jewelry finds go up or am I just having bad luck in the dry and waters edge? Maybe my luck will change in the fall when we have lower tides. At any rate it will cool off and I can extend the length of my hunts.

This Friday I think I will hit it in the evening. All previous hunts are always crack of dawn affairs. Maybe someone is out there at night giving me the competition that keeps me in the clad.

I run the ace in jewelry mode. I dig my share of foil and pull tabs but I will give it a try with no discrimination on tomorrows hunt.

Today's hunt was really quite. I worked an area between the more crowded areas and didn't start hitting the clad until I had walked all the way up to one of the more populated areas. By that time the heat was setting in and I was getting tired so I scored my worst day yet with only six coins.

Tomorrow I am going to drive a few more miles north to Lido. Haven't worked this beach yet. Its lined with a few big chain hotels and has more of a Daytona feel to it. Hopefully I will have something nice to post tomorrow afternoon. Its probably been a month now since my one and only jewelry find with the ace.

I lined up a nice side job today that would fall just shy of paying for an excal. Maybe a water machine is not as far off in my future as I thought. Only problem is the job would have to be done on a weekend and I will lose the hunting time.

I think the odds of finding jewelry are higher if your hunting in front of some of the higher dollar hotels, at least in my area.

Only problem with the lido area is its lack of bars although I am sure there are bars in the hotels.

The village area on Siesta I have been hunting is lined with bars. Drunk people staggering out on the beach and losing everything is my theory on this. My not be that sound of a theory however considering my lack of jewelry finds in the area. God watches over children and drunks.

You might try different times or days to hunt. I've had to vary this to 'beat' some of the other guys MD'ing the same beach. I can always tell when someone has been there before me by the lack of stuff, even pull tabs. It just means that some one else beat me to it.

That's why I pretty much hunt in the water. It's not covered as well, and timed correctly, I can get to some great little sandbars and cuts.
