Didn't get to MD very long this morning but got my 2nd Jackson Victory. Posted a pic earlier from the field.

The spooky way in by the old cemetary

This place is still almost impossible to hunt...... still too high

DSCF3026.webp

Didn't hunt long but this is about all of it worth even showing

DSCF3036.webp

You can bet I had my stuff out checking the other buttons from the site..... hadn't cleaned most of them. No luck.

Odd that there is no oxidation on some of the square nails. This place is loaded with them. Most are easy to tell on low disc but still dug a couple. Lots of iron trash etc.

Nice button TNGUNS. Have you hunted around the graves yet?

Lighting does strike twice there GUNS!!!! It's hard tellin what you can pull there when that's layin rite... GREAT pics as well bud!! CONGRATS... HH

cwhunter,

Haven't hunted around graves yet. Landowner actually suggested it the first time we talked. He is a pretty rough old customer according to most but has been awesome to me. I worked for a small city PD and he has worked for the PD in the town just above mine for many years, so knew him from that. May give it a shot. A little mixed in my feelings on that.

Just give your respects before and after, you'll be OK.

Cool Buttons,Gunns. Kinda strange on the oxidation.................HH

Great finds! Love those buttons, I hope one finds itself under my coin one of these days.

Gunrunner,

Wonder why some of them aren't oxidized. The home has been gone over a century. Most of the iron is typical in oxidation, but noticed a few of the nails aren't oxidized. Super trashy and have pulled up several digging good targets that they surround. Who knows:dontknow:

Congrats Guns on that pair of the Jackson Buttons, real cool to find too :occasion14:

WTG on the Jackson Victory buttons. Looks like you have quite a nice plate of relics there, and a nice old field to hunt.
:occasion14:

Will say one thing about the field, it is bizarre how easy it is to dig in. We have had a little rain and it is just dark porous soil. Stuff is unusually deep in it though. Wish it were all like that.:icon_thumleft:

Congrats on the 2nd button. Before too long you'll have enough for a suit. Regarding the lack of oxidation on the square nails, I have been hunting an 1800's homesite and have also noticed the lack of oxidation on some of the square nails. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the particular metal composition or manufacturing method? On the contrary, all the broken horseshoes and cast iron pot pieces that I find are heavily corroded.

The metal composition has something to do with it. What's near it in the ground also.

DanKnug,

It has to be something with the nails....... everything else has the typical oxidation. Still even have the blue tint as if new. Will have spots that are corroded but really odd.

Usually it is nails, but some other iron can be this way. There are a couple different reasons it can happen. Am working on a book right now that talks about some of the reasons.

Well going by your moniker "Rusted_Iron", I guess you should know a lot about oxidation!

The field will bed down over the winter with snow and make it easier to hunt TNG. Stay with it and you will have a nice presentation for the historical society in the spring. The cool part is that YOU personally dug the relics on that site-you did not buy them or try to deceive anyone about where you hunted which was on private land with permission. HH, Quindy.

Much appreciated Quindy. Hoping the goats really get it down as well. Just found two more home sites that really may have some CW potential. Just Ag fields now. We didn't have the battles in the area that you guys had in Middle TN but did have tons of troops that moved through the area. Seldom hit these sites without a few CW relics and these two really have me exited due to some recent research. It is an either or, but one of em could be killer. Tore up waiting to get to the property assessor so I can find out who to see for permission.:icon_thumleft:

Nice score on the buttons !
