They don't regulate. But they should follow the safety rules for trenching. The video is a total disregard for their own safety.

you sure the link is for the right video? the one i watched didnt have any trenches in it. ???

First let me say.

Please Don't Put down other Forums.

I edited your Post above

Next, the Video is about Digging a King George Copper.

and Thirdly ;

I wouldn't want OSHA Regulating me no Matter What.

OSHA only regulates the "WORK PLACE" but they should follow safety concerns while digging.

They are clearly don't know anything about "CONFINED SPACES". It is very dangerous what these guys are doing. One hole looked over 6ft deep without shoring .If it were to collapse there is no way they could dig fast enough to save their comrade. Then they post the video with very dangerous confined spaces and disregard for their own safety undercutting the trench to look for bottles.

so then y dont you put the right video up
that way we can get the idea what your talking about
that hollow guy is riight
all i see is a guy in a feild walking and digging a divit sized hole ???

Sorry guys right video posted now. It was posted by SPANISHSILVER

I can understand your concerns about YOUR SAFETY but if someone whats to dig for bottles in the fashion they did, let them dig, so be it. It almost sounds like your a little bent that they found what you didn't. I'm sure you have already turn in the video to someone because you are not happy with what you saw, Which I feel is just away to make you feel better, justifying your feelings,
OSHA would only get involved, IF it was on a construstion site and job related. And if someone was hurt during the process of this dig. If it was on private land with permission they can not do vary much other then here your concerns and file it away.
So, so what if they hit pay dirt and had a successful day in digging, I'm glad for them, and glad they had fun and no one got hurt, But to call them stupid??
Like we have never done a Stupid thing before!
FYI IMO

I don't collect bottles myself. I was just concerned about safety. No father or mother wants to bury their kid over a hobby.

yes that trench easily could have collapsed killing whoever was inside. very very dangerous. i hope that they realized how dangerous that was, but at the end of the day it is their business. people do need to know the hazards of digging a deep hole though. a lot of people die every year in cave ins.

If I had seen anyone under 18 years old, I might agree.
However, all I saw were young men (adults) doing the digging.

I don't know if they involve any people younger (kids) in their digs (I hope not), but as long as they are doing whatever with themselves and hurt no one else, let em be.

Is it stupid? I have no idea if it is or not.
People can get killed doing safe, relaxing fun things too.
Like the couple that were sitting in their back yard on a hot summer day, soaking their feet in a kiddy pool with not a cloud in the sky.
All of a sudden a power line above them broke and fell into the pool, "ZAP" they were goners!

Looks like they were having a blast.
If it's their time to go (when it's your time, it's your time) then what a proper way to go eh...doing something you LOVE doing aqnd having a blast doing it!

I have to agree with you,
Its just bunch of good old boys just having fun thats all

My intentions are about safety nothing else. These guys in the video apparently never did any kind of trenching work or confined spaces.

What if you saw your buddy lying face down in a 10 foot trench.

Would you go in and rescue him?

If you answer YES, most likely you would be the next victim.

Confined spaces is very dangerous to play with. You need the right equipment.
Like oxygen tester,shoring,ladders, and etc.

If they wanna play with the grim reaper so be it. I just had to post before anybody got hurt or died because of it.

Thanks we are greatful that you did make us aware of the dangers

I just have to put in my 2c. I agree with both sides but everyone that has read this now knows a little about safety in trenches. I am Sure that everyone on here doesn't want to hear about someone getting hurt and if this tread has help 1 person then it has worked on why this was started. not to be mean just to say be safe and think. So don't be mad at him he is just trying to be a friend. (I think)
