Appears to be Japanese, pre-war probably. The makers mark is similar to marks on some damascene pieces I have. There are a couple of people here who read Japanese, perhaps they'll chime in. The color shows up as sky blue in your photos. What material is it made from? A picture of the inside might give us a clue for it's use. It's dimensions would also be helpful. Very nice though.

thanx,

I'm thinking Chinese - mostly because they are more into dragons.

The characters mean longevity & good fortune in either Japanese or Chinese.

Still working on the logo to help determine age.

The characters inside the diamond logo on the back imply the meaning of house or dwelling or place to live. Something like that... Pronuonced "ju" or "sumi" in Japanese, but I don't find them standing alone. Typically there are additonal radicals to make it a word.

I don't know the Chinese usage.

I didn't find any logo or maker's mark similar. Post pics of the inside and the lid hinges and maybe someone will recognize the style.

Actually what DC matt said is correct. He said 寿福 shou fu 寿 shou means longevity 福 fu means good fortune. xing fu 幸福 means happiness.
