Those are some really interesting rim designs. Thanks for sharing those! :icon_thumright:

Kat you have some of the best pottery shards I have seen in a long time.

ok Kat you seem to know pottery quite well. What is this one? Little dish or what?

Kat hasnt seen it yet. Always like different thoughts on pieces. Never hurts to hear them. I have shown it to other from here and everyone says something different so far.

What do you think it is?

:hello: Hi you guys...NCP, maybe will find the rest, haven't so far though:( Thanks OD & Monsterrack for liking them :) So....a "test" from Rock eh! Well...first thought was it kind of looks like a "turtle shell" shape, but then that top "bump" thing? It is scooped looking, maybe held something or was a lid? And it looks scalloped around one side, don't know if it goes all the way around? Don't know if that "bump" thing is the only one or are there others like "legs", can't tell. The texture looks kind of rough for pottery....so it's sort of hard to tell exactly what it is, but it's something! lol Gee, I'm a lot of help right? lol.....do you know what it is?

No I have heard all different things. Handle, effigy, dish. Its not broken is all I know and it is pottery. One theory is that it was on a side of a pot for decoration but nobody knows for sure. I have been hoping somebody will see it and know for sure. All kinds of theories but until somebody actually shows one like it as a fact like another pot with one on it they are just guessing like everyone else. Thanks, rock

You know, at first I was going to say that maybe it was a side part of a jar/pot....it could very well be this. A lot of times when a pretty piece of pottery broke they would save the nice part and smooth down the edges and save/use for other things. I have pottery pieces like that. Maybe yours is very old and has worn quite a bit making it hard to tell what the decoration was, could very well be!
