Hey guys... Last few days just started getting the urge to get into the metal detecting hobby. Few of my buddies mentioned to me and my girlfriend tends to enjoy going to the beach and laying around for 6+ hours often... I am not the type of guy who can just sit still and do nothing so im thinking about wondering and detecting. I live out on Long Island New York. I just started heavily researching and had a budget of about 1000 dollars or so to get a fairly high quality setup. Just thought i'd join a forum and maybe chat with some people and get educated a bit. Minelab Equinox 800 is basically where my research has brought me... Would love to get some feed back and thoughts from everyone.

Thanks

Mark

Welcome to the forum! :occasion14:

Good Luck on your new detector search. Take advice, but please research other machines. Knowledge is your friend. You will need a good pin pointer, digging tool, pouch and shovel for woods and fields, plus a scoop for beach work. :headbang:

Hey.. thanks for the info.. yea i was going to go with the minelabs pinpointer 35. figured id get a pouch and some shovels and sand sifters and what not.. cool thing is i drive my truck or jeeps on a bunch of the beaches so i can always just keep a bunch of things there as well

Good luck to you on your search. Welcome from San Jose, CA! Happy hunting!

Once you find your first couple coins, you will be hooked! Have fun and good luck!

Welcome to TreasureNet. You really don’t need a shovel. Spend your money on a quality scoop. Best of luck!

Djreversal,

Welcome to TNet. The Equinox 800 is a good machine (I run one), but like the Professor of Engineering recommends, do your own research and find one that will best fit you. One recommendation I will make is look at the Garrett (Carrot) pinpointer, I found it to work and last a lot better than the Minelab 35. Welcome again and good luck with your hunts. Walt

Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) so if you ask a question, etc. - members may have more success helping you (your location may help etc.)...
