brass object from florida beach

i found this about 10 inches down in the beach. It's solid brass, the round end has a little on it like it was slid into a slot to hold it onto something. Its about 6-1/2 inches long and 3/8" wide.

I agree with Gtoast99. A sundial's gnomon (pointer-arm). Here's a photo of a sundial with a gnomon whose shape is quite similar to yours.
