✅ SOLVED Iron Thingy - Any Ideas?

My wife found this iron thingy at an old farm. This particular piece of property is on the 1874 map for our township. It is not on the 1854 map, however there is an older cellar hole on the property and things we've found lead me to believe the property was used late 1700's through 1840's. We've found coins from KGII through U.S. Braided Hair Large Cents 1840's.

No clue as to what this piece could be, but to me it looks very old.

The arm that comes off is about 6 inches.

This barrel end is an inch wide and about 3/4 inch high.

The length of the piece from the barrel to the end is 9 1/2 inches.

It looks a lot like a log dog, but it’s too small for that.

I thought a lifter to remove wood cook stove plates. It also resembles a caliper, but too many things seem wrong…

I'll have to clean the rust of the barrel looking portion to see if it is a hinge with another broken arm. Good idea! Thanks...

It looks like a tool to poke holes in tin cans.
Or maybe its a giant bottle opener(?)..

I had a closer look at the barrel end last night. Used a magnifying glass with it's own light. Looks to me like the barrel end is a hinge point, I could see where it looks like another piece broke off. I do think it may have been a compass. Even holding it up to the compass image provided looks like a match.

Once I get it cleaned up better, I think I'll be marking this as solved.

This was already suggested in post number 8, and the finder/OP now thinks this is correct.
