This sturdy brass piece came from a site that's been occupied since at least the 18th century. Any ideas? The one piece button came from the same site, and is unlike any button I've dug before. It has a very high dome, lined field, and is gilted on the reverse (and may have been on the face as well). Has anyone seen one like it before?
Thanks,
Jason

Appears to be a foot for something, like perhaps a lamp base.

Yeah, my only guess was that it might be part of a candle holder base. A lamp base makes more sense, given the design on the top. Thanks for your input!
