Brass piece?

My buddy found this in a farm field that we have found a spanish cob, but most everything else is late 1800s. Made of copper and coated with some other metal in some spots. Stumped!!!

That'll be a tough one. It looks like some mechanical part to some kind of a machine. I wonder if in 20 years how many folks won't know what that thing behind it is ??

Agree. It is part of a mortise lock... and a 3.5 floppy.
