I don't see any stars but you can unbend it with a vise drop it in a small cup of paint thinner and
then use steel wool to see if they are stars or just rust spots.

I still cannot believe that people did not show more interest in this in the what is it forum. I think this is a really interesting object. Definitely from the early-to-mid 1800
Speaking for myself, I'm at a loss. The piece looks like it could/should be part of the tail section of an old toy airplane....like the ones that used to shoot sparks out the gun port. You'd pull the trigger and that would spin a piece on the inside against a striker. Was a really cool toy, and I truly wish it had lasted more than 5 days with me!! ....I even broke Tonka trucks - usually over someone's head (sister comes to mind). Big, all-metal Tonka trucks. ....Ouch! Anyway, what throws me is this piece appears to be brass, and that would counter the cheap stamped-steel parts of the toy guns. So I'm at a TOTAL loss.
