Found this brass? tag in my neighbors backyard. House supposedly built around 1900. Independence, MO. Right around the corner form the Harry Truman house. Have had many suggestions from Facebook & IG, but nothing to solve the question. I think its brass. Blank on the back. About 3/4" wide. ST. L. P. C. CO.

Thanks IMG_6045.webp

I don't know. My search involved trying to find older companies in St. Louis that used the exact lettering as P.C. Co. and Portland Cement had the most consistent hits as using that combination of letters repeatedly.

Just a WAG...Usually a shop tool tag or such are holed, this tag is not holed.

Therefore it may have another use like a (coin op toilet or) bonus to be used for meals, and the like.

WAG? And could this not be scrip? That was my 1st thought.

It might have been what you gave to the delivery man to let him know how many yards of cement you purchased.

Here's another idea:

The World's Fair was held in St. Louis in 1904. Below is a excerpt from the Engineer's Club of St. Louis. They attended the World's Fair and also toured the Porlland Cement Co. Their transportation was provided by the St. Louis Railway Club and others. Perhaps this was a souvenir token given to them, which would have also doubled as a transportation token.
