Brevete what ?

What is it ? The words are backwards and some worn off.
I can make out BREVETE SGDC and maybe BEPOSE or pepose.

Re: Brevete what ?

Why do the letters look backwards?

Re: Brevete what ?

I'm only guessing roger, but the two holes in the object would be consistent with it being a wall hanging lamp bracket of some kind.

The metal was stamped and wrapped around showing the back side.
I'll take it apart and get a better picture.

Re: Brevete what ?

For starters, BREVETE S.G.D.G. is patented in French. "Breveté" indicates that the design incorporates one or more patents. "S.G.D.G." (Sans garantie du Gouvernement) is a disclaimer required by the government of France stating that it does not guarantee enforcement of the claimed patent.

Ok that explains the backward letters, thanks.

repose more likely.
Maybe DEPOSE (means registered trademark)

BREVETE S.G.D.G. DEPOSE

Unless we can get a number, the words wont help much. I think I see numbers on the bottom.

I agree something mounted to a wall. It is mounted like this:

Where did you find it?

Came across reference to brevete and SGDG - The SGDG stands for "Sans Government Du Guarantee" (some of that mis-spelled, I know), which means that the French government doesn't guarantee the product, or something like that. This is found on musical instruments all over France; Courtois, Selmer, Besson, etc...The term brevete simply means "patented". - a link to the site - http://www.trumpetmaster.com/vb/f140/besson-brevete-vintage-41734.html (Sorry about the red hilite, is there a way to have another colour?)
You need to read Reply #6. :) I think I said that.
