Went back to the brick house today hoping to pull some IHPs or at least something from the 1800's.
I am running BOOST process and changed direction from (East to West) to (North to South).
As soon as I got there, it started to drizzle. :unhappysmiley:
No fear, I won't melt. Within a few minutes it cut loose. :BangHead:
I went to the van and got my poncho, a little rain was not going to chase me away.
First target was the bullet. On my 3rd row I get a big hit next to the sidewalk.
I dug down 8 inches, nothing in the plug.
I pulled the pro pointer out and when I put it in the hole it was going off. Must be a little deeper.
To make a long story short I pulled my 1st Big silver, and it's from the 1800's! :hello2: An 1812 Napoleon Empereur 5 Francs coin. I am stiil stoked even though I dug it about 4 hours ago.
The wife normally does not get excited regarding my hobby nor the finds, but she had to take a pic of that coin to send to her pops. Pulled 3 more wheats (1935, 1944, & a 1951-D. Only 2 memorial pennies.

I did go next door to an older permission and I pulled an old stirrup (now I have the set) dug the other one last year.

Isn't this a wonderful hobby? Thanks for reading, and hope ya'll got out to swing the coil today.

That's a sweet hunk of silver. Even has old Napoleon on the face. I once dug a silver plated pewter counterfeit 5 francs, 1845.

Man I'm drooling over that big European 203 year old silver! Few people ever dig a Morgan, even fewer find a big silver like yours...congratulations.

I just noticed it has a lettered edge, what does it say?

TN Mount. I think I missed it because it was so close to the sidewalk that I may have thought I was getting a false signal. I have always discriminated less on private property, But have been slow to knock on many doors. Using the F4 last season helped me in identifying false signals. If a site is worth hunting I always grid it out and hunt in at least 2 different directions. I have been know to go at a 45 degree angle on the 3rd pass if I pull plenty of targets in the 2nd pass. Most of my previous hunts have been on public lands in a 4 county area. You just can't beat a good permission site though.

You are right that location is everything. For me I am fortunate to have my house on a civil war battlefield it got me started. The early colonials here were settlers and did not have much wealth to loose. I have hunted Davy Crocketts friend and companions home. Nothing but iron. One thing we do have is tons of Ancient american artifacts. They are hard to resist!
Keep up the good hunt and congrats again on that far away from home old silver.

"DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANC" translates to God protect the Franc.

Do you know why they minted with writing on the edge? It was to prevent people from shaving the coins.

Super nice find! Always interesting reading your posts, thank you for showing.

AWESOME, Loco! That is some killer silver. What a great and thorough job you're doing. Just some great success there. Congrats again. I hope to keep telling you that!

Congrats on the silver and also the great looking stirrup recovery.

Wow, that specific coin is still very way up high on my "dream list". Glad to see you found one, and in such awesome condition too!
Anything relating to the Napoleonic-era gives me goosebumps just thinking of it. It was a very awesome period in world history.
So amazing that you can find such a valuable piece of 200+ year old French history right here in the US. :treasurechest::notworthy:

Beautiful coin-congrats!
