Been a horrible summer for me as far as digging goes . Either life has gotten in the way or I just haven't been finding much . That changed yesterday when one of my newer permissions had the hay cut off of it . I have already pulled 6 LCs and 2 FE cents out of this spot so far this year . I had a great day with my best find being a Vermont Copper . My first ever State Copper . It was pretty wiped but I made out enough detail to make a positive ID. I was stunned when it popped out . Also found a big crotal Bell , heart shaped railroad switch lock , Big Dandy Button , V Nickle and other odds and ends . For anyone who dosent know what a state copper looks like I'll throw up a pic of a undug example. Mabey my fall digging will be better then my summer

awesome. congrats!

What a nice variety of finds! Congratulations on your first state copper! Congrats and HH

I like those finds, pretty cool with some awesome thrown in. congrats

Very nice hunting. I'd be interested in seeing the obverse of the coin and a closer look at the cleaned up dandy (I may have a match to the latter). Cheers

Congrats on the old copper and other nice finds

That's a tough one. I'm more inclined to say that its a Connecticut copper based on what I see, and the fact that those were minted in far greater numbers. Congrats regardless, and may many more get under your coil.

How exciting for you! Congratulations! So would that be a 1700s state copper? Cool.

I actually never realized the back of the Vermont and Connecticut Coppers looked so similar till I looked after your comment . I honestly looked up State Coppers on my phone right after I dug it and the Vermont popped up first . Never considered there would be a different state with such a similar layout. Tyvm for the info . It's my first State Copper no matter the state . Lol . Ty again

What a nice response. There is fantastic history between the Connecticut and Vermont coppers and Machin's Mint British counterfeits, with shared dies and die makers and a host of other fun twists, as well as some mysteries.

Lastly, a Vermont copper would actually be a national coin, as they were minted by the Vermont Republic (constitution, coinage, the whole works of a nation) years before becoming the 14th state. Very cool IMHO, but of course I'm a little biased ; )

Happy hunting!
