buckle piece fround with engraved back

I only have this picture with me now, trying this from mobile app not sure if picture will come up. But on the back there's a raised X and then down at the other end its engraved look i ng and it says j. Har the rest is broken off, is that a button maker? Or a guy?

I was figuring it could be a decorative buckle piece, it cam out my colonial hole, ots made of pewter or brass not sure.
