I wish I could help you. I hate unsolved mysteries. It looks vaguely familiar, but I looked through my buckle book and relics books and could not find an exact match. Some things close but not exact. Maybe someone on here will eventually have an answer for you. What is the iron coated with?

Good question. It is heavy but not iron.felt like weight of brass but it appears to have flaking/corrosion on the edge that reminds me of pot metal

Hi all,
I usually find D buckles like everyone else but this I think was a buckle and older? Would like your thoughts on age
Thanks
Nick
I don't know anything about old buckles, so I might be stating the obvious. But to me it looks like there is a piece missing; namely down the middle which would make it a double D. That make sense?

I would bet that it is the remains of a fairly cheap sliding sash buckle.

What about a decorative type of sash buckle. ???
