I live in Midwestern Pennsylvania and every single hole I've been digging the past month while detecting has had these little guys in them - Obviously a larvae, but for what kind of bug? And when will these bugs come out? Because there sure are a lot of them!

Im not sure what you have there. Im just a hop, skip, and a jump from where you are. I haven't noticed anything like that. I do dig alot of grub worms and today I dug into those little orange pizz ants several times. Id be curious to know what they are. A cicada?

I'm thinking cicada as well. In an earlier stage, they would be more worm-like, but maybe they're getting ready to "hatch".

Too small for a cicadia. They're big critters - 1" to 2" long.

Looks to me like june beetle pupa.

June Beetle Pupae - What's That Bug?

Those big gold beetles that come out at night this time of year.

Lots of bugs are in the larva phase, and it's hard to distinguish them.

We had a perfect infestation of Japanese beetles a few years back that denuded the trees of leaves. They can be battled with systemic, but long term with soil insecticide that kills the larvae.

Oh ok! That would definitely make sense because the larvae is orange just like the June bugs are. Thanks!
