Did some research on Civil War battles and found a spot on the river near my house where several battles occurred. I did a quick exploratory trip there this past weekend to check things out. I didn't hit it hard as I just wanted to learn the area but I did find this in about 1.5 feet of water under about 8" of mud. I will be back there and hitting it hard. Too bad Virginia's laws suck and I have to stay in the water.

Awesome save!!

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

It's a Confederate 2 ring Gardner bullet.

Nice one!

On a bit of a side note: what is the law in Virginia that you mentioned? Just curious.

I think its the thou shalt not trespass one. They are real funny about it in VA and MD is worse.

Curious myself about that as well.

If you're a landowner those laws are great. Ask before you detect. Gary

Very cool! Congrats

Not referring to private property, I think private property is pretty much the same everywhere: have written permission from the land owner. I am talking about local, state, wildlife management area, etc property. Many officials will say "well there's no law against detecting but you can't dig or recover anything". I filed for a permit with my local wildlife management/recreation area and am waiting to hear back. But in an informal inquiry a few months back they basically told me hell no.
