Drug money is in bills - no need for coins. Unless it’s buried in a metal container it could be extremely hard to find.

Also, I would think it would be a bad practice to keep money with the product.

Easy does it chasing stories in hopes of developing a solid lead when drugs/illegal activity is involved.
I'd dig more on the dealer (safely) in regards to what network existed.
He may be gone , but there was a trail above and below him.
Some one ,or some folks suspecting what you suspect ,(hey , if you got wind of it ,it's no secret) and keeping tabs on the possible site might be too interested in anyone on it.
You do the work . And some one else relieves you of the results. Or worse.

Otherwise....Work the lead discreetly and see how solid it is. Without getting associated with it by anyone else.
Not an easy thing to do. But vital in this case.

I think there's a documentary about a guy who was entrapped by the us government when he tried to find some buried drugs or money based on a tall tale that may or may not have been true. It's a pretty amazing story.
