I'm trying to identify an entire coat, but I thought the button would be the best way to approach this. The button is brass, or something gold colored. the back of the button seems to have 2 breakpoints from the mold that are not the same color as the button.

Hey
I dont know if this will help but the button looks japanese. The two points on the back is how the gold flower is attached. After seeing the button and then the jacket also reminds me of Japanese pilots or railway workers?. I cant pin it down but checking some websites on japanese buttons or jackets might turn up something.
All the best.......Dr-Quest ;D

Thank for you hasty reply! I have done a few searches, but have been unable to find anything even remotely like it. Maybe someone could help me with the actual search criteria. As per the origin, my grandfather got this coat somewhere in Asia (could also have been the middle east). I have spent hours looking for something even with different material that is designed the same way:

Outer Lining is ?Polyester?Nylon?Silk?VeryWaterResistant?

Inner lining is a separate piece of fabric with a leather or someything and is very soft and furry. Perhaps animal fur, but I'm not sure how to tell

has 4 belt like clasps on the front with a button that loops directly to the inner lining of the coat wrapping it around your neck entirely

Has an adjustable belt thing that can tighten the bottom radius by 4 inches or so.

This thing is HUGE, it is way over sized on me and I am 6'2" 200 lbs. It is fantastically comfortable, and knowing my grandmother's shopping habits was probably in style somewhere.

Has no tags, no manufacturer signature marks, and I just have no idea where else to look.
