I got my first denied permission after approaching staff at a police station. Disappointing. I did hand over two live bullets found that I didn’t want to keep in the house. Oh well. On to another site.

I found a bit of trash but also found this button in a 1700-1800s area. I had found a British halfpenny in the same area. I cannot find this button on the internet to help identify it. I would love it if someone could point me in the direction to learn more about it.

I also found this metal piece that I thought was a buckle, but after cleaning it up at home, it looks more like part of a three note musical piece....with the center piece being missing. I could be totally off , but the varied lengths and the thin flexible pieces look to me like some kind of wind instrument....or maybe plucking instrument.I look forward to input on this as well.

Thanks for looking. It was nice to have another day to go out!

The button appears to be more of a modern blazer button. The iron back leads me to believe that. Not sure about that other piece.

Thanks, Evolution...I wondered about it being just a blazer button....but seemed an unlikely place for a blazer..Oh well...

Thanks for your input.

Underwonder, I can't help with the button, but, the other piece you found is interesting because I found the same thing about 2 weeks ago myself.

It does look musical, now you have me wanting to dig it out and investigate it myself.. I'll let you know what I find.. Happy Hunting

Thanks basssman. I couldn’t find any photos that resembled it, nor knew what else to look up. Someone here might help us out. Funny you would find one recently also! It is pretty hefty for its size. I am not sure why it would need to be so rugged. It all has me wondering!

Reeds to a musical instrument.

Thanks...SkaBa. Any idea what kind? BTW my husband and I are heading to San Antonio next week! No detecting opportunities...shucks...but should be a nice visit by the river walk. Thanks for input!

Definitely a civilian coat/jacket/blazer button, with a fake Coat-of-Arms to make the coat look expensive. In particular, it shows two major clues to its true ID... having black enamel on its front, and an iron/steel loop. Military buttons and even Livery (family-crest/coat-of-arms) buttons tend to always have a brass (or copper) loop.

Yes, wind instrument reeds. The double reed with the two reeds going in opposite directions is from something like a squeeze box or accordion. The "opposite directions" allow the instrument to sound a note on both inhale and exhale-of-air modes.

The triple reed is from a "button-accordion"... as shown at upper right in the photo below. That one was made in the early 1900s.

CannonballGuy you surely are an educator! Thought I guess a military button will have to wait to make my list. The reed info. is interesting. I never saw the inside of an accordion. Very cool! Thanks so much!
