Its not an iron shank by a copper-alloy that has redden. Its a Civilian button early 19th C :icon_thumright:

Many thanks for the info. :icon_thumleft: I am in no way complaining but I just wanted to say that a magnet says there is something ferrous in there. I wonder what this buttoned up. Comes from the site of a mostly cavalry battle.

Unless they were using a 30 year old button I think it unlikely it had anything to do with the CW :thumbsup:
