Found a button today in area of mid 1800 home sites. Picture is off internet but it's same as I found. Rounded eye on back with some writing around back edges.
Thoughts?

I found the very same design on an 1830s site in Florida. Congratulations

Probably a civilian button from the 1840's-1870's. Can't say much more without looking at the back of the button
