🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Button Identification help please!

Hello fellow enthusiasts! Yesterday I dug up a button around an old 1850s farmhouse in southern New Hampshire. I’d like help gathering more information about it. It seems to be gold plated on one side. I can read “IMPERIAL GILT”. 20mm in diameter and read up as 78 on my Garrett ace 300.

Greetings and welcome to the forum.
That is one of many British "quality" backmarks starting in the early 1800s. If I am not mistaken, many imported buttons with the same and similar backmarks were prevalent through the Civil War era.

Flat buttons made overseas between @1790 and 1810 had a raised backmark, those like yours with the incised backmark were made from the 1810s until the mid 1830s. After that, two piece buttons became more popular and pretty much ended the 1 piece buttons use.
