I have three dug military buttons.I believe 2 of them are Rhode Island and the 7 stars one to be Massachusetts.
I'm not sure but they were all dug in Rhode island.Anchor with hope underneath is our flag.
I'm just wondering what branch/war etc.
Anyone have a good button book?

The Scovill button .. the best I can tell from the photo .. would date 1880-1920
The D. Evans looks like 1860-1870 period

According to what I get from "Albert's" button book the first one is a Rhode Island state seal made between 1850-1865. I hope Creskol will tell us why he dates it later. Still working on the middle one but, the backmark probably reads "D. Evans & Co. Attleboro Mass". They were part of the Robinson Company and produced buttons from 1848-1945.

The backmark shown appears to be consistent with that time period according to the Military Button Makers and Dealers by McGuinn

Creskol,
Thank you for the info. I do not have your book. I have "Albert's" and "Tices". Alberts does not have a lot of detailed info on backmarks and I didn't look at "Tices" before posting my reply. There is more backmark info in it and I will agree with you on the dates.
And, to add to the "Evans" button. D. Evans was a bookkeeper for The Robinson Co. and took it over after the company went bankrupt in 1848. He continued to use Robinson backs for at least twelve more years. D.Evans Co. closed at the end of WWII.
Comparing your backmark to those in "Tice's" book it appears to be from the 1860-1880 period.
