I am new to this site, but I am hoping that someone may be able to help me solve the mystery behind this flat button. My wife and I have tried to do research, but have not found anything that matches it. It was found near Savannah, GA and has been placed around the time of the American Revolution or War of 1812. This, of course, is not for sure. If anyone has any idea, I am open to any and all possible leads. Thank you in advance!

At first glance I'd say French, and if it has a turret shank I'd stay in that direction. Spanish are also similar and the word repvblica might make more sense with those. I've seen so many misc. ones from these places, and others as well, in stead of helping it seems to make me guess even more. The type of shank, and if there's a backmark could be some good clues.
