Hi all, today a bunch of friends went out to an old homestead... we found this two piece button without the shank. It has a steam engine on the front but the back is to corroded to see any mark. Its 1 inch in diameter. Year and what is it please?
That's a pretty cool find. It can go back to the mid to late 1800s. It is off of coveralls like the train engineer wore. Think about the white and black stripped coveralls they wore. Those would be on them.

Thanks that was prompt and helpful! I went to Google after I got a direction to go and looked it up, it is a uniform button..... its a railroad uniform button tie clasp. Thank you once again for your help, once again this forum and its people have been a great help.
