Started hunting at 7.30. The weather was getting better. After a few bronze coins I had the first silver coin. I'm very surprised. The first day I found a coin from an island near Athens, 600 km of distance and now a coin from Venice, more than 1100 km of distance.

Venice 1253-1268 AD. Silver grosso. Christ enthroned, facing front; IC-XC above. RA-CENO-SM-VENETI; Doge (L) receiving tall flag from St. Mark (R). DVX down flag staff. The 45th Doge of Venice. ref: Biaggi 2775. 21.3 mm, 2.08 gr.

Because of the heavy rains a lot of terrain has moved down the hill. In one of this spots I had I clear high sound but as I began digging it became more scratchy and they came out one by one. They look very old but I'm not sure.

Right on the surface, on the top of the hill a bronze bracelet was laying on the ground. Close to it I found two bronze hair pins and that a lot of other bronze stuff.

Going down the hill this silver drachm came on my way.

But the best was this small bronze brooch with some kind of monster on it, probably a dragon.

Here is Cru'dad thoughts on the Crusader Coin (I've yet to find my first);

'' Looking at Vince’s latest coins – there seem to be some Macedonian BC and Crusader AD types .

So far I believe have identified one Crusader Denier coin from Athens AD1287-1308 belonging to Guy II de la Roche as below

Crusader - Athens - Guy II de la Roche Denier

Not sure how far I’ll get on the ancient Greek etc as it is a painstaking task to view hundreds of pictures and regions not knowing where to start!''

Woow! I didn't know where to began with this coin! Please, tell Cru'Dad that I really appreciate his help. Honestly, I was thinking of some Ottoman silver coin.

Insanely amazing:icon_thumleft::icon_thumright:

It would be awesome if you restore those tools

Vince,
Would you consider the first coin as actually being this one:
coins-europe-italie-venise-jacob-contarini-1275-1280-gros_120020A.jpg

Jacob Contarini (1275-1280). Gros. Paollucci p 21, 1. Di Scarféa 42. Montenegro 38
There was also another Doge Contarini (Andrea) but I would favor Jacob as being your coin.
Notice the TARIN on this coin and yours.
Don............

The guy on the right looks like a spaceman! :laughing7:

I'm jealous, no hunting like that in western Pa. Wish I could go someplace like that.

cudamark,
As you probably already know, the image on the right that may appear to be wearing a space suit helmet is actually depicted as wearing a 'nimbus', or halo, to represent a holy or sacred person; in this case a saint.
Don....

Good hunt Vince with some great finds :icon_thumright:. Too much snow in the North of England to detect today. A good time to look at some old hammered coins, with a beer. Those Venetian coins, certainly travelled freely throughout Europe. Robert.

Yes, it is a mythical beast or Lion on it, if this was UK I would date it to the 13th C. Pretty sure its a mount that went on a leather belt that held a sword. Very nice, & high status.

I thought the same about the date. The back looks like a dragon, because of its tail. The front is not clear but looks like a horse.

Yeap, mythical then, pretty popular back then.

Thanks Don. I think its more probable. I chose the first one because it was the first shown on Google and I didn't pay attention to the details. I was exhausted .

Sorry Don. I should have said: Yes, you are right. That's it.

Absolutely fabulous finds and congrats! I hope you harvested some of the Greens when you were digging the farming tools, they are an excellent source of Iron. Just cook them with some Pork Fat Back or Strip Bacon and a little salt, then serve warm to mildly hot with some vinegar. MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm!!! Making this old country boy hungry.

Pfff. speechless.. now you don't even need a detector to find bronze artifacts? Give me a break!!
Banner in my books, the Grosso is a superb beauty and the drachma rounds off a 2? silver day and so many amazing objects!

Thanks Rob. The day before i found some bronze byzantine coins and as I checked them on Google I was looking at some silver byzantine coins. I was thinking to my self: why I have not found a silver one yet, when will I find one of these? It happened the next day. Did you find yours in UK? If so, it means that I have to find others. Lets cross the pinpointers :laughing7:

I cook them on steam and I don't use any fat. Only before serving, some home made olive oil, bio lemon juice and just a bit of Himalayan salt. Very tasty while looking at the coins :laughing9:

Sounds very tasty but I am on old, down South country boy here in the U.S. of A. and we cook them with Pork Fatback and Salt, then add a little vinegar. They go great with fried potatoes, pinto beans, cornbread and fresh green onions on the side. Dang, this has gotten me craving all the above, so I guess I will have to visit Lisa's Restaurant for lunch where I can get them all.

Thanks Ben. If I could find a Grosso and a Crusader's coin, than I hope I can find some other interesting coins. All I need is to get back there!

Amazing Vince, that's a stunning array of finds for one day!
