Started hunting at 7.30. The weather was getting better. After a few bronze coins I had the first silver coin. I'm very surprised. The first day I found a coin from an island near Athens, 600 km of distance and now a coin from Venice, more than 1100 km of distance.

Venice 1253-1268 AD. Silver grosso. Christ enthroned, facing front; IC-XC above. RA-CENO-SM-VENETI; Doge (L) receiving tall flag from St. Mark (R). DVX down flag staff. The 45th Doge of Venice. ref: Biaggi 2775. 21.3 mm, 2.08 gr.

Because of the heavy rains a lot of terrain has moved down the hill. In one of this spots I had I clear high sound but as I began digging it became more scratchy and they came out one by one. They look very old but I'm not sure.

Right on the surface, on the top of the hill a bronze bracelet was laying on the ground. Close to it I found two bronze hair pins and that a lot of other bronze stuff.

Going down the hill this silver drachm came on my way.

But the best was this small bronze brooch with some kind of monster on it, probably a dragon.

Here's the rest guys.

Thanks buddy. That was a very nice surprise for me. It's a special coin for my area.
I can have the possibility for the banner only after six months but I appreciate your vote, thanks. :occasion14:

Vince,
Would you consider the first coin as actually being this one:
coins-europe-italie-venise-jacob-contarini-1275-1280-gros_120020A.jpg

Jacob Contarini (1275-1280). Gros. Paollucci p 21, 1. Di Scarféa 42. Montenegro 38
There was also another Doge Contarini (Andrea) but I would favor Jacob as being your coin.
Notice the TARIN on this coin and yours.

Not sure what to say on the adzes/hoes? Old/really old/or what? Liking the design of them as I haven't seen ones like this before.

Thanks Don. I think its more probable. I chose the first one because it was the first shown on Google and I didn't pay attention to the details. I was exhausted .

Vince,
Quite understandable; and with there having been 100 dodges--many with similar coin designs-- it is easy to either overlook or be unable to read their names on the left margin of the coin. Keep finding them; they are a great challenge to ID.

Lots of nice finds & the hammered looks great.:occasion14:

I remember when you first started & were struggling & wondered if you would ever get over the good finds. Now you're over them all the time & before you know it you will have a great collection to ponder over.

Here is Cru'dad thoughts on the Crusader Coin (I've yet to find my first);

'' Looking at Vince’s latest coins – there seem to be some Macedonian BC and Crusader AD types .

So far I believe have identified one Crusader Denier coin from Athens AD1287-1308 belonging to Guy II de la Roche as below

Crusader - Athens - Guy II de la Roche Denier

Not sure how far I’ll get on the ancient Greek etc as it is a painstaking task to view hundreds of pictures and regions not knowing where to start!''

Yes, it is a mythical beast or Lion on it, if this was UK I would date it to the 13th C. Pretty sure its a mount that went on a leather belt that held a sword. Very nice, & high status.

The attribution of your drachm usually includes the following phrases:
'Cow suckling calf left.'
'Double stellate pattern within double linear square with sides curved inwards.'
The coin is Greek from Illyria-- Apollonia.
Many legend variations exist.

Thanks buddy! I hadn't seen them before too. The strange thing is why did they dig a hole and put all this tools inside! Now that I'm writing I just came back from there. New nice finds :notworthy:

''Thanks to Mackaydon at serial 15 reply I believe I have identified the drachm as follows:

(Cru'dads link didn't work, find it here -
http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/greece/illyria/apollonia/t.html )

Magistrates Moschilos and Parmenos. MOSCILOS above cow standing left suckling calf, star below / APOL PARMHNOS around double stellate pattern.

See if I can get any more!''

First I was confused. I thought it was a byzantine from Macedonian empire. Now that I know I will check it better. Thanks buddy!

That's funny. Before having a MD, my opinion was that all I needed was a metal detector. Later I realised that all I needed was to know how to use it. :laughing9:
