This baggage tag was found in Savannah Georgia while we were digging. Other items found in the same area were an Union Eagle button, a piece of a cannon ball and few musket balls. We also dug about two dozen John Ryan bottles but all were broke. My question is which rail road company do you think C.R.R. was? Central R.R.? Coastal R.R.? Some other that I haven't thought of? Any thoughts are appreciated.

If we are to assume that it is civilwar period, then I have good news. There was a railroad that ran from Columbus to Savanah. A portion of that road was called the "Central Railroad of Georgia". That section seems to have run from Savanah to Macon. Source: Railroads of the Confederacy by Robert Blake III.

central railroad = CRR -- run fits -savannah , ga to columbus , ga -- civil war time frame fits * with union button and cannon ball bits & bullets maybe the union army attacked a confederate train --and afterwards looted the train -- baggage tag lost as they looted it . (just thinking out loud)

lol Ivan you should write the eBay listing. ;D

Nice RR tag find. It may have some value if rare. http://railroadiana.org/hw/pgBaggageTags.php

Look at the very top above the slot in small writing will tell you the company that made the tag. http://www.tagtown.net/tagtown.html http://www.tagtown.net/dater.html

Can you tell us the makers mark GaRebel? Its either on the top or bottom (like taz suggested). My eyes are good but my old computer does not focus that well lol or it doesnt have enough pixels. It does appear to be writing on the bottom.

Taz was right. I looked at the first link he posted and saw the exact same one and then looked at the bottom of my tag and saw it is marked as E.Hoole. Thanks for the information from each of y'all.
