Awesome finds Bob! Cahokia points in my opinion are in a league by themselves! The workmanship is incredible. Thanks for showing!

Re: Cahokia Points & Micro Drill Core

Greg Perino gave a lecture at the Cahokia Mounds interpretive center in the early 90's said the basal notch made the point nearly impossible to remove in that it would frequently fracture the point into 3 pieces upon impact or removal. At least that's the explaination I remember. The lecture may still be available on VHS tape for loan from the Cahokia Mounds gift shop.

I'm not sure if that's the reason for extra notch, or just the result of having the extra notch.

Afternoon

The extra notch also aided in hafting the point to the shaft, I believe.
