Calling all BUTTON EXPERTS: P N Patriot Button recovered with INTACT shank!

Hey guys,

While these PN buttons are attributed with the Southern Campaign by some, they remain largely a mystery as none with an intact shank has ever been recovered. Apparently 3rd time is the charm as I finally was able to recover one that is complete here in SC. Anyone have any thoughts as to the origins/date range given the construction.

The letters are the maker's mark. They are found all over the eastern US and date about the time of the Revolution. They are not military as such. I have seen some from Maryland and Virginia.

Interesting smokey, every other report of these I've read narrows the find range from SC to Georgia. Had not read of anyone finding these outside of the Southern Campaign area.

I saw some in Maryland, Virginia and South Carolina personally. I believe I saw one from Georgia a long time ago. Not New England, to clarify.

I've heard of them being dug in SC, GA, and FL. I have understood them to be of Spanish origin. I don't think the jury is out them yet. Great example.... Nice
