Found this coin at a 200 year old farmhouse. Found a couple of pewter spoons and other newer coins. ALso found a 1938 wheat penny, but this is about this one coin which I cannot determine what it is.
This coin is slightly larger than a penny and is about the same size as a nickel. It is also thinner than a penny and slightly thinner than a dime. It is made of copper because I can see the reddish /brown color of it on the edge (when looking at the thiness of it). I do not know anything about colonial coppers and not sure if they made them this size, but I knew someone here can help me with this. I just washed it with water and a little soap beacuse I do not know how to porperly clean it to determine what it is. CAn anyone help me also about cleaning this coin?

Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think I have. There seems to be some pattern on it but cannot determine for sure.

Thanks for looking

well after cleaning it a bit with soap and water and a q-tip for scrubing, I'm starting to wonder if it actually is a flattened or corroded memorial penny. I am starting to see a pattern oin one side that looks like the Lincoln Memorial. Not sure though. Well if anyone has any thoughts or knows coins that have the lines like the Lincoln Memorial (the columns) let me know. Other than that sorry to get everyone up on a wild goose chase, if it does turn out to be a newer penny.

Thanks again

I can tell you it does look right for a British copper. Gone through my collection & the size is wrong for all of them.

Hope this helps

If it doesn't fit with any coins it's probably a token (or a slug) and there are so many of those fat chance getting an id...If its worthless anyway you could do electrolysis to see if you can etch an image...kind of like they do with filed serial numbers on guns...That part that was lower in the strike will be more compact and etch more slowly while the higher portions will etch away faster giving you a kind of reverse image...I wouldn't try it if you think you can id it another way though. It could be worth some scratch if it's something rare, even in bad condition. Otherwise etch away to get an id I say.

still looking at it and I am starting to think that it was a penny that somebody flattened. It definately looks like the Lincoln Memorial. Sorry for the rush to post this without further investigating. MAybe I will get some colonial coppers soon.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!

Funk, on one side, I see what looks like a man's running legs with pants and shoes on. Could definitely be a token or medal of some kind. Shine a light across the surface laterally, the raised portions should be slightly shadow casting then and clearer to visualize any images better. ;) ;DComanchero
