NGSNY is National Guard of the State of New York so it is from the 23rd Regt/ or something? The one with the lion probably say excelsior and If I recall is the motto on the NY state seal so related i guess or blazer?. the Airplane one is cool.

It resembles the British General Service but yes I believe it is an old blazer button still in use today similar to this.

cool, thanks guys.
ok, one more question, heres a flat button I found on monday.
seems to be an eagle on the back, the only word i can make out is guilted.
its just a bit bigger than a quarter...any clues?

Looks like TREBLE GUILTED or TRIPLE.

BTW Some of your pics are great but some others are a little out of focus. You need to pause half way to allow for your automatic lens to focus before pushing down all the way.

Those Brits put patriotic emblems on the backs of some buttons to appeal to American consumers during the first third of the 19th c. The eagle was a common device.

As BCH pointed out, the first word is "Treble", but the second is "Gilted" (no u), the button is guilty of nothing except being well plated (originally). :tongue3:
Nice old find!
