Can anyone tell me if this is military?

I found it at a 1850's trading post site and I will be giving it to the property owner along with lots of other finds. It looks like it could be from a uniform but I don't have any books on buttons and cufflinks. Any help will be appreciated.

Looks civilian (non-military) to me. The design seems to be the 1890s-ish though, so it's in the era you're looking for. Nice

Looks Victorian or art deco... definitely civilian.
