✅ SOLVED Can hem weights be square?

Very short hunt today in the hard dry dirt produced what looks to be a hair clip and a hem weight. Can a hem weight be square though? Also any guesses on the date of the hair clip? I know some of you are very good at dating things strictly by looking at clasp types. Thanks for looking!

I found a couple of square weights when I was working on a ranch along the Carson River in Nevada, and wondered if they were military. They were found close to Fort Churchill, and I found an army button at the location, but there were also lots of civilians that had passed through the area.

Very interesting. Mine does not have markings on it so I'm assuming that its an earlier version. At least I hope it's an earlier version
