Hi can some id this strange looking vase? What is this use for? I believe its sterling but cant id the hallmark. It can be open..

I think it is a lota probably from India that holds water for purification

Where did you find it? Dug? What part of the country did it come from?

I brought this at a auction and the hallmark seems to be arabic so maybe middle east or asia i assume.
