Ok i'm just getting into this metal detecting and coin collecting.. Yesterday I went through my change collection looking for silver.. I found a bunch of nickles from 1964 all the way back to 1941.. My buddy told me that they are not like quarters and dimes in that the silver years are only from 1942 to 1945 I believe.. Just wondering are these older nickles I found worth holding on to or should I just roll them back up and try again.. Any advice would be greatly apprecitated...:BangHead:

not all of 1942 are 35% silver but yes 42-45 are 35% silver , i am sure why the big deal on 64 and older nicks are a rage with some

So they would be worth at least sticking into a book and holding on to instead of rerolling them.. Thanks for your help..

thanks but if you wanted to make a set go for it, i am doing the same in a set of for the kids

Got to start somewhere I guess.. At least I know what I'm looking at now.. Appreciate it.

Up in the northern part in the famed dents run area.. LoL I'm willing to bet most people on this site know where that's at..

not really sure i am not from this state, but do how every reside in newmanstown next to Ft Zeller

I have no idea where that is I am about 1 hr and 45 mins north of Altoona.. I'm only about a 1 hr away from th NY. border...

near johnstown you are i r is near reading

Yeah Johnstown is'nt that far away from where i'm at there's alot of good farmland down that way.. The backroads along the interstate are littered with nice spots to detect.. You ever try any of them...

have yet to get out to some places no gas money to get there, so most of mine is in local area

To help clear up the "war nickel" question, the nickels with silver in them have a mint mark above the Monticello on the reverse.

You can't go wrong saving war nickels. They are not only novelties but pieces of history.
