I think it's either a form of argilite or felsite, pretty much ubiquitous in New England. I think they're in the same general family of rocks as rhyolite and so forth, which were formed by volcanic activity (vs. flint or chert)
Thanks for the information if it is volcanic rock then it was pushed down here from the last ice age from much further North for Long Island was formed by the ice sheets Thanks for your insight Dd60

Yes the second picture is what the rock here looks like felsite ,not much of it most all stone here is round white lemon to baseball size rock the farmers collect those stones from the fields and make huge mounds on the edge of there property some over 20 feet high :dontknow: bragging rights ? :laughing7: Thanks again targe  Dd60

I got a couple points up here in Maine that are made from the same material Jim. Same color as yours. I think I have an all tan colored one too. :icon_thumright:

Its great to find those nothing older except dirt i always check in the fields after a good rain the farmer showed me his collection over 70 years just beautiful i was lucky he gave me 4 points 2 white 1 black and one tan like you said and properly all came from rock from Maine and Canada makes me wish i could date these but iam sure they are old , the entire Northfork was a Indian reservation of many different tribe,s until the Settlers came:thumbsup: Jim

Interseting material we don't see anything like that down here in Texas.
