Can you train a dog to sniff out money?

Actually I read a story awhile back about some guy who trained his dog to sniff for all kinds of treasure like silver n gold etc.....
 

Paper money has a distinct smell, that would help a dog to learn to recognize it.
Funny, I was thinking that too - to train the dog to search for paper money.

No expert on this, but I THINK coins would only have a smell from the oils and salts they acquire from human handling, and that would dissipate if they spend any time in the ground.
Good question though - let's see who else responds.

Copper does seem to have a specific aroma, but I don't know about other coins.
