It is almost 6 inches.

I'd call it a very nice monster bi-faced blade.

that is huge!

Nice artifact. It could be a blank/preform.

I think quito nailed that one. imo to much work on it to be a preform. Is the other side the same?

Like it was said there was a lot of work put into that blade, I would go with knife blade but it looks like a spear head to me.

my father has a whole case similar to this blade and i have 3 ...here in ny ours r from native onadaga flint...we call them cache or leaf blades....usually where 1 is found there r more to be found in a cache...some collectors have speculated that they may indeed be blanks and stashed to be reworked later into other points ...hence why they r found in caches or stored with many similar pieces ....tribes did trade ....its possible that its the same flint as here ....it looks like one of ours we have...i would check with someone that knows his chert....hopes this helps

also i dont know how to do pics yet but when i figure it out i will post mine....im new to this site

beadman2, it would be nice to see pics when you can. steve

indian steve...i would love to show you pics...i just dont know how to post pics...i tried last night it frustrated me....im posting from cell mobile web...so idk how to get the pics from my phone to this site...as far as the point goes mine look the same some have maybe slightly lighter gray hughes in the flint...but some can be all dark onadaga flint....remember indian tribes traveled exstensivly for trade ....so it would not be uncommon for say the local native people where your point was found to travel all the way to western ny state and the land of the iroquois wich is where mine have been found...however these r older than 500 ad and historic seneca iroquois wich is primarily what i deal with...you can find the source of origin of point by locating flint source....onadaga flint is quarried from central ny state....

I would suggest it as a preform, there doesn't appear to be any secondary flaking on the edges. jmo.

That's a mean one!
