Xp Deus,
That's it, I'm done.
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I can't handle that story.

I guess I really don't care - who cares if they want to rummage around in the sewer?

I bet it stinks lol

This could be why metal detectorist have a sh#%ty reputation:censored:

Wonder what they thought they would find, clad, zincs, girl friends ring, their lost pot pipe? Gold in a local bank vault?
Do they realize what they just exposed themselves to?

I think the main complaint was the displaced manhole cover being a hazard.

I say anything you find in the sewer is yours!!

isnt there a lot of metal re-bar in the sewers, dosent seem the
detector would work well

Nope - pgfhgs, we all had a sh#%ty rep long before the sewer came into play. Face it - people don't like us and there is no way around it.
No matter how nice, clean, professional, intelligent or polite you are - You are finding things that they aren't and THEY don't like it!!!!! :dontknow:

I remember a post about 5yrs ago on another forum about a guy that detected town/ city sewer dump. Vac trucks pumped out the sewer and he detected the field where they dumped it all. He sure had a pile of rings to show for his efforts!
just think about it for a bit, little Suzy plays with mamas shiny ring(s) and doesn't want to get caught.... Of course, flush it. Don't get me started on old privy digs where people had the option of retrieving a valuable find but chose not to.
If I could find an old sewer dump..... Well,....... I'd be in there like a dirty shirt. A dirty rotten s&%#¥y most pathetic excuse of a man shirt and hip waders.
In a graveyard, ya charge the suckers. In the sewer, sheesh, leave the poor guys alone. Tell them to shut the door next time.
C'mon, anyone that is in this hobby has to be missing a few bricks in the first place.
Come to think of it, maybe that's how those guys ended up down there.....

If you happen to find my missing bricks? Please PM me, I really need them...

Yep! Just like all the stuff we dig up.
But being in a cramped, smelly, dark, germ & chemical infested sewer looking for treasure....that's a little extreme, unique, but extreme. Unless they have good info about something being down there.

Digging in an old/abandoned privy would be okay. You would think that all the waste would have been turned to dirt and the bacteria/viruses would be dead. So the "threat" level would be low. But going into the active sewers of New York City, that is a new level of crazy...I would not do it for all the treasure on the Atocha.

Asphalt Jungle hunting, you do what you have to when you can't get to dirt.

Oh! I beg to differ! They got to dirt..... I hope they live.

Well I will pass along a little info I was given when talking to a city sewer worker,...the funeral homes are using the sewer along with hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities, chemical producers, etc.
There are just some places one should not go, unprepared.

I find it Sad they were arrested :(

Who / What ? Were they hurting, other then themselves at most.
Which apparently they didn't even harm themselves .
Add to that One was a Department of Environmental Protection employee

I wouldn't want to hunt the sewers! If a person had something like a 'hazmat' suit, it might be ok. I still wouldn't want to do it; but I think there just might a wealth of rings and such down there!

My guess that's where the problem arose.

Someone got Jealous / Greedy .
perhaps when they flush the system someone is cashing in,
and declared it theft to take that money from them.

like when they have auctions to sell off all the foreign coins from the Subways etc.
they may have auctions to sell off sewer Jewelry.
