I was exploring the woods behind my house today and came across what seems to be an old dump site. It has a lot of old car parts, beer cans, bottles, and other things. The more you remove the deeper the car parts go. Thought that I would share this and see if you guys think it would be worth going through. I know it's not a hundred year old site but you never know what could turn up.

Stone you never know what you might find. There might be some hood ornament or other part that might have value to someone who is restoring an old car. If you find anything that looks interesting you might try to identify it and ebay it. If they dumped cars no telling what else might be there as well. Most of us are in the hobby for the enjoyment of being outdoors and the thrill of finding something of value, so I guess the real answer is whether you want to or not. I know I would spend a little time before I wrote it off.

The site I am digging had 1980s stuff on the surface.. And im down to the 1880's - 1890's right now

I hope that's the case here. There are a lot of old abandoned houses around here dating to the 1880's and a few school houses that are about that old.

webbatch is right. Some of those old cars parts are worth big bucks. Unfortunately I can't tell you which ones. Take anything chrome, and I'm not suggesting bumpers (tho that might be where the big money is). Suggest side mirrors, main rear view mirror, make and model ID's, those types of things. And be careful removing the items. Like coins, to parts buyers, condition is everything. You might be onto something there good buddy. Maybe somebody has better answers for you. Maybe stop by a parts store and pick someone brain as to what to look for. I have a 1963 Chevy Super Sport (SS) emblem I found. I'm told it's worth $80 bucks. I'd rather have the emblem. And, naturally if there are still seats in the junk cars, check them for coins. If no seats, check the floor boards and other such hiding places. Good Luck.

Rusty car parts can be scraped for money,I belive you have a small fortune there:)

the most valuable stuff I find in 1950s dumps tend to be the beer cans.......believe it or not (more info: www.therustybunch.com)

Thats cool. There's two on my uncles land. Alot of scrap. Lately, it seems to be disappearing..lol. It was strip mined in the 40's. So locals used a couple remote gully's as a dump. They're either winching or pulling out the scrap, because they have over thirty foot ledges. The bad part. All the crap is left behind, unearthed. I'd rather walk by an old fender or fridge while hunting, if I had to see anything at all. A friend of mine bought a camp and property a couple years ago. Turns out to be the areas old dump site. His kids have spent hours excavating old bottles and such. Who know's... may lead them to a career in archeology, history or treasure hunting. Better than xbox anyday. HH !

Do your self a favor and ID the car parts before you scrap ANYTHING. I hang with a lot of old hot rod guys that can take a piece of rusty metal and turn it into a workable/usable piece. If you separate some of it and photograph it and need to get ID's PM me. I'm pretty sure we can get it figured out what you have. Also look for any stainless pieces. Even if they are ugly stainless can be brought back to life with a bit of elbow grease.

go for it, old car parts are worth money....:icon_santa: Happy Holidays

I seem to remember reading somewhere that back in the '30's when they were confiscating gold, people dropped their coins into their gas tanks. Who knows!

I did see about 3 fuel tanks and a few doors. I believe I'll be looking at them very carefully.

PLEASE let us all know if you find anything in them! I would feel so cool if you did!

I'll be sure to let everyone know exactly what I find.

Exactly! This site looks to have 1950's on the surface, depending on how long the site was used, there could be some really old stuff under the surface. And ditto on researching the car parts before you scrap anything. Looking forward to see what you find.

I went over to the site in between rain showers and found a bumper but didn't pull it out yet. I'm getting very curious to see what could be deeper. I move leaves and the car parts and old Budweiser cans just keep coming.

The fender looks to be a 54 chevy car at least a 100$ salvage all you can from that site rat rodders like me love rust suspension parts, brake parts, doors, fenders, glass, knobs, partial bodies, even the dash. one mans junk...

Here are some photos of the bumper.
