Got in a water hunt yesterday at Bullhead City. Was getting the usual pull tabs and clad, then a solid 24vdi on the Legend. Ring in the scoop!

Once I posted this and the enlarged image popped up on the screen I noticed something odd.
Unfortunately, I'm not very convinced of its authenticity.
It acid tests at 18k, but I was reading that the counterfeiters have developed stainless steel that passes the acid test.
The first thing that seems off is the machine marks on the inside. I doubt Cartier would let that go.

I'll get it checked just to make sure though.

All SS pass the acid test as far as I know. I bet you could still sell it outright if it is fake. Beautiful ring for sure.

One thing about gold, specially High K............when you scratch it on the stone, it is soft. SS gives a hard feel and thin line.

Someone in my detecting club found a similar bracelet. The jeweller told him it was counterfeit with fake diamonds, but the 18K gold was real. It was hefty. He sold it for melt value. I think he said they even cut into it to make sure it wasn't just plated.

Serial # 52833a is S# often used on fake Cartier love rings. I woukd test the gold or take it to a jewelry store.

I found out from a jeweler that SS does pass the acid test, BUT..... if you scratch it on the stone, the scratch mark almost won't come off, where as with GOLD I can just wipe it off with a towel.. If it wipes off your good, Same with silver etc..

If the gold is good, the name if fake it still a top notch recovery.
Did you dump the jar?
Is the title Cardier a play on Cartier?
Decided not to fill the jar after that last gold ring, too depressing.
Ooops, that was a typo.

Yes Really.. 👍I've never found one, real or fake, but from the pictures I've seen I think they are nice looking.. must be a reason they sell a lot of both. 😏 I would imagine the real ones sell for a good price.

Just measure its Specific gravity, it is real easy and then look up table for precious metals, SG should come in around 15 something, depending on type of 18k.

OldMx.... i hate to be that guy.... but hey.... you are a crewmember here so.... i am that guy.

I have to be the bearer of bad news... your ring is not real.... IMO.
I am 99.9% positive.
Due to markings.... they do not "etch" or "laser".
They stamp.
So... perhaps serious testing is in order.
Now...
There are expensive REAL gold fakes... they do exist.

I pulled out my Cartier LOVE ring, tested 18K with acid test by myself and a jeweler. I did specific gravity test and sure enough it was NOT solid gold, only plated, a very heavy plate to pass the acid test.

the color has been really kept on the jewel, it's really shinny
you tested it with the acid
I will give you and other people 2 different easy methods that work for silver and i think for gold would be the same
ice test: put another item which is gold beside on a ice cube, if it melts slower than the one is really gold then it's fake
magnet test: gold doesn't stick to magnet
The markings look a little rough for an authentic Cartier but don’t feel bad!, I found this today. Marks indicate 24k Chinese gold but unfortunately, ends up just plated copper.
