Nice day to go detecting, off to a site that has given up 13 silvers over the years, but none older than the 40s.
After 4 hours of hunting just one wheatie to show for it despite plenty of nice, pretty signals that always turned out to be deep clad
Deep clad is good as it is a sign that the site hasn't been hunted with much skill, but a tell is only worth something if you do finally get some silver.
Finally saw a shiny disk in the hole, figured a modern silver quarter, and was shocked when a seated popped out
Not 5 minutes later, and 15 feet away, another nice signal and 2 silver dimes are in the hole. Over 5 hours of hunting and all the excitement in 5 minutes.
Well, the seated cleaned up not too bad for being in the ground over 100 years, and turned out to be a CC to boot. My first ever CC coin. Not one of the real rare ones, but we'll take it.
It is nice to know, for us east coasters, that CC silver managed to make it back east in those days. I always wondered about that.
Thanks for looking and HH everyone.
